What causes the SsangYong Musso body shudder?

Worn factory rubber body mounts. The Musso is built body-on-frame, and the rubber mounts between the body and chassis compress and harden over time. Once they do, road vibration transfers straight into the cab — usually felt as a shudder from around 80km/h. It's often misdiagnosed as a wheel, tyre or suspension problem.

Will new tyres or wheel balancing fix the shudder?

Usually not. Most owners who come to us have already done tyres, multiple balances and alignments with no change. If the shudder survives all of that, the body mounts are the likely cause.

How much do replacement Musso body mounts cost in Australia?

Accepted Answer

Our complete billet aluminium body mount kit is $700. Going through a dealer with OEM rubber mounts typically costs $1,200 or more, and the rubber will wear out the same way again.

Rubber mounts fail by design — they compress, harden and crack, which is what causes the shudder in the first place. Machined billet aluminium mounts with quality isolators don't degrade the same way. It's a one-time fix rather than a repeat replacement.
